In Unity, Advent is understood metaphysically as a four-week period of intentional spiritual preparation for the awakening of the Christ Presence within. Instead of waiting for the birth of a historical Jesus, Unity teaches that Advent is about recognizing and calling forth the divine potential—the “I Am”—that already lives in every person.

Each of the four traditional Advent themes becomes a state of consciousness to cultivate: faith as the perception of divine possibility, peace as the stillness at the center of being, love as the harmonizing and unifying power, and joy as the inner realization of divine life. These qualities form the spiritual foundation through which the Christ nature is born in our awareness.

The purpose of Advent in Unity is to shift from outer expectation to inner realization. It reflects the creative process of idea, preparation, activation, and manifestation, guiding us to align with the deeper truth of our spiritual identity. Advent invites us to embody compassion, forgiveness, nonresistance, and spiritual self-responsibility as expressions of the Christ within.

Ultimately, it is a season of consciously preparing consciousness so that the divine nature we already are may shine more fully into our lives and into the world.

This year’s Unity Advent booklet, With Love at Christmas, will help you pause and center yourself in Spirit each day. Whatever you are feeling this season, With Love at Christmas will nourish your spirit and warm your heart with messages of love written with you in mind.
